Sants-Montjuic
Even though Sants-Montjuic is just 15 minutes from El Prat Airport, Sants Montjuic isn’t on the main tourist trail. It is a large neighbourhood that has a pleasant community feel, which is great if visitors wish to experience how the people of Barcelona live, work and play. The area features large residential areas creating their own little neighbourhoods punctuated by pleasant squares and open spaces. It is an excellent location for a stay in the city because it is very well served by public transport: Barcelona’s train station - Sants Estació – is located in Sants-Montjuic.
The basic facilities a visitor needs including bars, restaurants, shopping, theatres and nightclubs are all within walking distance but the major sights of Barcelona are easily reached thanks to the public transport connections: for example, Sagrada Familia is just 35 minutes away.
Sants-Montjuic also has its own attractions. Just five minutes from the train station are Plaça Espanya and Montjuic mountain. Plaça Espanya is beautiful and one of Barcelona’s most important squares. The shell of the city’s old bull ring is here but the real attractions are the Palau Nacional which is home to the Catalan National Art Museum and the magical fountain of Montjuic. The fountain is a major draw as it combines sound, light and water, and when it is lit up at night provides a spectacular sight in front of the illuminated museum. Other sights include the outdoor museum of Spanish life, the Poble Espanyol, Montjüic Castle, Fundació Joan Miró (Musuem of Modern Art) and the botanical garden.
